Central Asia Tech Law was invited to share its comments on the draft report โAI Governance and Sustainable Developmentโ at the Seminar on “Artificial Intelligence Governance for Good and for AllโEmpowering Global Sustainable Development,” organized by the AI Safety and Governance Program of the World Internet Conference and the Specialized Committee on AI.
During the seminar, we emphasized the importance of integrating cross-cultural perspectives into AI governance frameworks to ensure policies are globally aligned while addressing local needs. Additionally, we highlighted the need for a balanced focus across all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as AIโs transformative potential should contribute to areas like environmental sustainability, public health, and social justice, beyond industrial growth.
Key Recommendations:
1. Balancing Innovation with Environmental Sustainability:
- Establishing binding green standards for AI innovation.
- Incentivizing carbon-neutral data centers and promoting research into energy-efficient AI models.
- Encouraging governance frameworks that support low-energy solutions to contribute to climate-related SDGs and ethical technological growth.
2. Cross-Cultural Perspectives and Capacity-Building:
- Integrating diverse cultural, legal, and socio-economic contexts to enhance governance structures.
- Expanding educational partnerships, enhancing AI infrastructure access, and promoting collaboration through tailored capacity-building roadmaps.
- Bridging gaps to promote inclusive AI governance and contribute to global sustainable development.
The World Internet Conference (WIC) established the Specialized Committee on AI (SC on AI) in November 2024, bringing together over 170 experts and organizations to promote AI standardization, safety, governance, and international collaboration.
